2019 u17’s: England v Andorra Match Report

England 11 – 0 Andorra
(Half Time 3 – 0)

It was a great performance by the England team, tactically the players were perfect in both defence and attack.

In the first phase when Andorra played us, they used the second goalkeeper and rotated the whole team. Their objective was to surprise us in the second phase. However I told the players to forget the result in the previous game and to approach this game with the right attitude, respecting the opposition.

We started the game with great authority. We didn’t allow Andorra any opportunity to cause us problems, by using our restricted defence and then pressuring the man with the ball and cutting out their pass lines.

I asked the players to again retain ball possession and to play the carousel at a slower pace and then to change speed to attack the goal, this way we scored most of the goals.

This result doesn’t reflect the difference between the two teams which in reality is much closer. However our players, following their instructions to the letter, made the game look easy for us as we didn’t allow them to dictate any part of the game. After we scored our fourth goal they lost their heads and we controlled the whole game to achieve the final result.

In these championships, we will now attain a higher final placing than we have for the last three years. Tomorrow we play France in our last game.
