2019 u17’s: Israel v England Match Report

Israel 1 – 6 England
(Half Time 0 – 3)

The game could not have started better for us as we scored from a set move after eight seconds to give us an early 0 – 1 lead.

We were dominant throughout this game in all areas and and the team decided themselves to play full rink pressure. However during a time out, I asked the players to change their tactic and to only press from half way. This way we would make the pass lines that would allow us to create more space to attack in and subsequently we scored two goals.

During the second half, despite rotating all the players, tiredness became visible. In some ways this was to be expected as the players were playing their third game in a twenty-four hour period.

Goal Scorers:

  • Spencer Berry (3)
  • Joseph Hawes
  • Josh Owen
  • Pau Dickin

We have now finished Phase One of the competition in the following position:

  1. Spain (10 points)
  2. Italy (10 points)
  3. ENGLAND (6 points)
  4. Andorra (3 points)
  5. Israel (0 points)

Congratulations to the team on the completion of phase one. We played well throughout this phase including a very competitive game against Italy, one the favourites to win the competition.

We now look forward to Phase two which is a Round-Robin competition to decide 5th to 9th places, consisting of England, Germany, Israel, France and Andorra.
