England 5 – 1 Holland
(Half Time 2 – 0)
England are promoted to Group A
Playing against Holland for the second time was always going to be a difficult game after their loss in the Group phase. They were very motivated and determined to reverse the result from our first match.
Taking this in to consideration, I changed the tactics slightly by alternating between a restricted man to man defence pressuring the man with the ball with half way line pressure.
Compared to the first game with Holland, where the score at half time was 0 – 0, by adopting this tactics we finished the first half 2 – 0 up with a very solid defence along with great attack and counter moves.
We continued with the same tactics in the second half and had two spells where Holland really pressured us with two men on our player with the ball which caused us some problems. After a time out, we were back in control of the game and finished with a well-deserved win.
As an example of our performance in this semi-final, our first and last goals were straight out of the text book.
Now we are up against Austria in the final
