England 5 – 1 Holland
(Half Time 0 – 0)
We started the game well, concentrated in defence, which caused Holland a lot of difficulty trying to get into our restricted area and getting shots on target.
Our problem in the first half was that we were not reactive enough in our counter attacks and when we had the ball our players were not going in front of the Dutch goal. We tried with a time out and substitutions to improve our attack which helped to create a few goal scoring opportunities.
At half time I spoke to the players, explaining that we needed a player in front of the goal and to play with a three man carousel, with one of these three pushing up into the final third of the rink to unbalance the Dutch defence.
The instructions given were followed by the players, with the man in front of the goal culminating with two goals.
Holland scored a goal from a direct free hit, however we never lost control of the game and we scored three more goals to earn a well deserved win.
