u17’s European Championships
Israel 2 – 6 England
(Half Time 0 – 1)
First Objective Achieved
I told the players in the tactical meeting that I believed that Israel would play a diamond formation as they had previously against Spain, but not in the first game against France. The reason I mentioned this was due to our result against Spain, which meant that Israel would approach this game with a lot more care.
England started the first half nervously. The team defended well but didn’t make the right decisions when attacking.
One the main problems was, when we were attacking their diamond defence, we didn’t always approach this the right way and most of the time the counter attacking was done individually.
At half time I told the team that I wasn’t happy with the performance in the first half and they would need to continue defending well and to look for counter attack moves with the players moving off the ball constantly.
A great second half ensued, with the ball being circulated a lot more between the players which culminated in Five good goals.
With this win we achieved our first objective ,which was to make sure we were not at the bottom place of our group.
Now the draw with Spain puts our objectives even higher. We play France today and Germany tomorrow to compete for the top two places in our group.
