An Exciting Game

After a very unlucky game yesterday against France, England approached the match against Spain with a good attitude and were well concentrated in defence as well as trying to explore the counter attack.

2015 U17's England v SpainWe didn’t change our system and we pressured the Spanish player with the ball as soon we lost possession to delay their attack. For most of the first half we had to defend and our boys were very brave, defending our goal with both their body and their stick.

At half time when I spoke to the players, I asked them to carry on defending well and to try to slow down the game by putting together three or four passes and keeping more ball possession.

The team started the second half with more ball possession and creating good attacks. Defensively we were still doing very well causing the Spanish team lots of problems trying to play in the now restricted area.

I am very pleased with our players performance considering the fact that Spain made thirteen team fouls and we missed two direct free hits.

On Tuesday we play two matches:

  • 10:30 Portugal v England
  • 19:00 England v Germany
