England participated in this tournament with a total of eight teams:
- Under 11’s (Youth Ladies & Vision 2020 Projects)
- Two Under 13’s (Vision 2020 Project)
- An Under 15’s (Vision 2020 Project)
- Two Under 17’s (Project 2018)
- An Under 20’s
- A Ladies Seniors team
For the first time since the tournament’s inauguration, a Spanish club participated in this tournament in both the Under 11 and Under 13 categories.
England showed an improvement in their level of competitiveness. With a total of 26 games played, we won 18, drew 3 and lost 5.
England reached four finals, winning two of them in the Under 13’s and Under 17’s categories. Unfortunately the English teams lost in the Under 11’s and Under 15’s.
The Ladies beat a Sanjoanense team 4 – 2, that plays in the Portuguese Ladies Premier League. Our team is very young with the majority of the players being between 14 and 16 years old. The young girls are improving in their competitiveness and with a couple of experienced players, we will be competitive enough to participate in this year’s European Championships.
In their last game, the Under 20’s beat the eventual winners Feira 4 – 2. This game was the last game of the tournament and it was a fantastic showpiece to end the tournament on. It also showed the tactical progress the team had made during the three days.
The tournament was a great opportunity to showcase how the England teams have progressed, as we fared well against both the Portuguese & Spanish opposition across all levels from U11 up to U20’s.
