U20’s England v Italy Report

2014-Valongo-logou20’s European Championships

England 0 – 7 Italy
(Half Time 0 – 4)

My objective for this game was to rotate the team to ensure that the players would be fit for the last two games.

Although we made a couple of changes to the starting line up, the team started the game very solidly with the players concentrating well in defence and held Italy for 13 minutes before they scored their first goal.

In  the last five minutes of the first half, the team showed a lot of tiredness and started to lose their positioning in defence which cost us three more goals.

The second half was similar to the first half with Italy scoring three goals in the last 2 minutes of the game.

I am very pleased with team performance considering that we have played everyone trying to rotate as many times possible and the score today doesn’t reflect the game as we deserved at least a couple of goals and maybe a goal difference of 2 or 3.

It was good to show that we could hold off a much better team matching them in many ways.

Despite losing we made Italy worked hard for their result.

We demonstrated the depth of our squad with our continual rotation of players
