u20’s European Championships: England Finish 8th
England 1 – 4 Switzerland
(Half Time 0 – 0)
England had a good first half against Switzerland, with a solid defence, more ball possession and good goal opportunities.
In the second half two mistakes cost us the first two Swiss goals. At 2 – 0 down, we started to pressurise the Swiss team a lot more, to try and win the ball quicker and we focused more on fast attacks instead of keeping ball possession.
We had a lot more shots on target than the Swiss team but once more we were not efficient enough in front the goal.

Keith Allen made the following comments:
This was a very exciting game for the spectators. Both teams played some really good hockey.
In the two games that I watched against Germany and Switzerland, we could have won both of them.
Also the fact that our team was a young team compared with some of the others, is a tribute to both the players and the Coaches, for the results that they managed.
What is so pleasing for me is the competitiveness that is now evident in all our teams. We are definitely closing the gap between us and those teams from abroad. We still have some way to go but I have every confidence that, because of the development structure that we have put in place, the gap will continue to close year on year.
